Blangkejeren | In celebration of the 79th Bhayangkara Day, which falls on July 1, the Gayo Lues District Police (Polres Gayo Lues) is organizing the Bhayangkara Cup Badminton Tournament at the regency level. The tournament’s opening ceremony was held with great enthusiasm and was officially inaugurated by the Chief of Gayo Lues Police, AKBP Hyrowo, S.I.K., at the Gayo Lues Sports Hall (GOR), Blangkejeren Subdistrict, Gayo Lues Regency, on Friday afternoon, June 20, 2025.
Also present at the opening ceremony were officials from the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Gayo Lues, including Deputy Chief of Police Kompol Edi Yaksa, S.Sos., Chief of Operations Kompol Iskandar, S.Pd., M.Pd., Chief of Planning AKP Junaidi Desky, Acting Chief of Logistics AKP Gomgom Tampubolon, several department heads, personnel from various police units, as well as members of the press from local and regional media outlets.
In his address, Chief of Police AKBP Hyrowo emphasized that the Bhayangkara Cup Badminton Tournament is part of the series of activities commemorating the 79th Bhayangkara Day in 2025. He stated that such sporting events are not merely competitions but play a strategic role in strengthening communication and emotional bonds between the police institution and the community.
“Through this tournament, we aim to foster a sense of togetherness, empathy, and strong familial ties between the police and the public. Moreover, it serves as a positive opportunity for physical training to maintain health and fitness,” said AKBP Hyrowo in his remarks.
He further affirmed that the National Police, as a state institution present within society, holds the responsibility to build social closeness, including through sports activities that unite all groups. He expressed hope that the event would strengthen unity, promote healthy lifestyles, and inspire young generations to thrive and avoid negative influences.
Following the speech, the tournament officially commenced with the symbolic first serve delivered by the Chief of Police, greeted by enthusiastic applause from all participants and guests. The opening match was held immediately afterward, marking the start of a competition that will run for several days.
The Bhayangkara Cup 2025 tournament features multiple categories, both singles and doubles, with participants representing the police institution, civil servants, local badminton clubs, and community members from various subdistricts in Gayo Lues. The matches follow a knockout format and are officiated by licensed referees from the regional badminton community.
Beyond competition, the organizing committee ensured the event’s smooth, safe, and professional execution. Security was handled internally by Gayo Lues Police personnel. Meanwhile, a medical team from the nearest health center was on standby to provide rapid response in case of injury or emergency. Sanitation staff were also deployed to maintain the cleanliness and comfort of the venue throughout the event.
The opening atmosphere was festive and full of enthusiasm. Participants wore their team uniforms, beaming with spirit and optimism. Cheers and chants from the audience filled the sports hall, creating a vibrant, healthy, and friendly competition environment.
In a follow-up interview, the Police Chief expressed hope that the tournament would become an annual tradition and a flagship program of Gayo Lues Police, enhancing the police’s direct involvement in community life.
“We hope the Bhayangkara Cup tournament continues every year as a regional sports agenda that fosters solidarity across community sectors. It’s not just about winning or losing but about creating positive spaces for unity and growth,” he added.
Furthermore, he emphasized that sports can serve as an effective medium for youth character building, especially amid the rapidly changing times. Through such activities, young people are provided with healthy, productive outlets to express themselves and strengthen social bonds within the community.
The opening ceremony concluded at 5:00 PM local time in an orderly, safe, and smooth manner. Preliminary matches are scheduled to continue throughout the week, following the agenda prepared by the organizing committee.
